Orbital Stability for Polytropic Galaxies Stabilité Orbitale Pour Les Galaxies Polytropiques
In this paper, motivated by the Galilean invariance of the solutions, we use the concept of orbital stability for the Vlasov–Poisson system. We prove that a family of stationary solutions, called polytropic gas spheres, are orbitally L1 stable in the gravitational case by considering direct variational arguments. Résumé. Dans cet article, motivés pour la propriété d’invariance Galiléenne des so...
متن کاملOn the Generalized Antonov's Stability Criterion for Polytropic Steady States
By a study of the energy minimization of the Vlasov-Poisson system subject to a new class of constraints, it is shown that generalized polytropes are dynamically stable among symmetric perturbations for the parameter range 0 ?1. In particular for l =0, this result justiies the classical Antonov's linear stability criterion for polytropes in a dynamical, nonlinear setting.
متن کاملOrbital Stability Zones about Asteroids
We have numerically investigated a three-body problem consisting of the Sun, an asteroid, and an infinitesimal particle initially placed about the asteroid. We assume that the asteroid has the following properties: a circular heliocentric orbit at R -2.55 AU, an asteroid/Sun mass ratio of/~ -5 x 10-12, and a spherical shape with radius R A -100 km; these values are close to those of the minor p...
متن کاملPolytropic Exponents for Common Refrigerants
Analysis of compression mechanisms requires a prediction of the pressure during the compression and expansion processes. A common model is the polytropic process, PV = constant. This paper presents a method for determining the best polytropic exponent to use and suggests values for some common refrigerants used in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry. INTRODUCTION When a gas undergoe...
متن کاملOrbital stability of spherical galactic models
We consider the three dimensional gravitational Vlasov Poisson system which is a canonical model in astrophysics to describe the dynamics of galactic clusters. A well known conjecture [6] is the stability of spherical models which are nonincreasing radially symmetric steady states solutions. This conjecture was proved at the linear level by several authors in the continuation of the breakthroug...
